Multiple Email Addresses for a Contact
A single contact can have up to 11 email addresses associated with their record. One address is designated as primary and is used for all outbound emails — campaigns, automations, and manual messages. Additional addresses are stored as secondary and are available for reference or future use.
This keeps duplicate contacts from being created just because someone uses different emails for work and personal use, and lets you capture all known addresses for a client in one place.
How to add email addresses
Section titled “How to add email addresses”
- Open the contact record and go to the Contact section.
- Scroll to the Email Address field.
- Click Add Another Email.
- Enter the new email address.
- Click Save Changes.
You can add up to 10 additional addresses beyond the primary (11 total). The Add Another Email button disappears once the limit is reached.
Setting the primary email address
Section titled “Setting the primary email address”The primary email address is the one used for all campaigns, automations, and manual outbound emails. Only one email can be primary at a time.
To set or change the primary email:
- Go to the contact’s Email Address section.
- Click the star icon next to the email address you want to make primary.
The star moves to the selected address, confirming it is now primary. You can change this at any time.
Importing contacts with multiple emails
Section titled “Importing contacts with multiple emails”If you’re managing a large contact list, you can import multiple email addresses per contact using a CSV file. Include separate columns for primary and additional email addresses and map them to the correct fields during the import process.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Can I send emails to secondary addresses? Not currently. Only the primary email is used for outbound email. Secondary addresses are available for reference.
How many email addresses can a contact have? Up to 11 total — one primary plus up to 10 additional.
Can I change the primary email after it has been set? Yes — click the star icon next to any address at any time to reassign primary.
Can I bulk-reassign primary emails across many contacts? Not directly in the UI. The workaround is to export your contacts, update the primary email column in the CSV, and re-import.
What happens to email addresses when I merge duplicate contacts? All email addresses from both records are retained on the merged contact, with the highest-priority primary address kept as primary.
